THE TERROIR

Humans often use art and music to express themselves. The vine makes itself heard through its terroir. It is of paramount importance to consider and utilize the natural conditions in the vineyard to the best of its ability. This includes sustainable thinking and action, as well as consistent yield management to maintain the vines' balance.

The most important factor is the soil, with its stones, composition, and crops. Like people, vineyard soils vary greatly. Even within a single plot, the soil composition can differ. Loess soils with silicified scree are particularly fascinating. They offer a deep, well-structured environment for rooting. As a result, irrigation is hardly necessary, even in hot summers.

The Fläscher Berg has shaped the landscape. Since the last Ice Age, it has been in constant motion. The loose, dark rock and the steep mountain slopes inevitably lead to a continuous renewal of the landscape. After the retreat of the ice masses from the Rhine Valley 15,000 years ago, the foehn wind stirred up the still barren landscape with dust and fine sand. These loess deposits are partly responsible for the unique soil microclimate on the Fläscher Berg.

„THE FOUNDATION FOR WINE QUALITY IS LAID IN THE VINEYARD. IN THE CELLAR, WHAT NATURE HAS PRODUCED IS PERFECTED.“

OUR CONTRIBUTION TO NATURE

The warm slopes and proximity to water create ideal habitats for fascinating reptiles like the grass snake. Preserving this natural diversity is very important to us – so that animals can continue to thrive here.

The increasingly rare yellow-bellied toad also finds protected refuges here. It prefers small, still bodies of water in sunny locations. With the newly created spawning ground, there are now three such habitats, which are readily used.
